Tamil Nadu unveils ₹27,600 crore mega sea-bridge from Ennore to Poonjeri — India's longest sea

Tamil Nadu government has officially green-lit a mega coastal sea-bridge connecting Ennore (North Chennai) to Poonjeri near Mamallapuram on East Coast Road, covering approximately 65–92 km with an estimated cost of ₹27,600 crore. The announcement by Transport/Highways Minister E. V. Velu in the State Assembly marks the start of a detailed feasibility study. Once built, this coastal “ECR Sea Bridge” would surpass the Mumbai Trans Harbour Link (MTHL) as India’s longest sea link — dramatically cutting travel time along the coast and decongesting arterial roads across Chennai. The bridge is expected to deliver major benefits to suburbs and towns such as Ponneri, Minjur, Ennore, and surrounding coastal regions — boosting connectivity, easing traffic, and spurring economic growth.
